Broccoli, cabbage and Brussels sprouts might fall short this winter

Britain is continuing to have one of its hottest summers on record, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 36°C in some regions this week. This means that vegetables including broccoli, cabbages and Brussels sprouts may be in short supply. The UK might also see a lack of strawberries soon.

Jack Ward, CEO of the British Growers Association, said that farmers have “never seen this combination of no rain and super-high temperatures”. He added that the weather had impacted the growth of vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, and onions, which are “mostly water”.

The drought may also lead to shortages of vegetables such as broccoli, cabbages and Brussels sprouts, which farmers should be planting now to harvest in winter.
